👑 High Drama, Master Spies, and Baroque Brilliance: This Fall!
What happens when a fiercely ambitious 22-year-old musical genius crashes the ultimate VIP music scene in Rome? You get a masterpiece so explosive it still leaves audiences breathless three centuries later.
This fall, join us for a spectacular evening of high-octane Baroque music featuring a pairing of two incredible composers who defined the elegance, drama, and secret rivalries of the 18th century.
⚡ The Headliner: Handel’s Virtuosic Dixit Dominus
Before George Frideric Handel became a household name in England writing Messiah, he was a young, daring keyboard wizard traveling through Italy, eager to shock the Roman elite. In 1707, he did exactly that with Dixit Dominus.

This isn’t polite, safe church music. Dixit Dominus is an absolute vocal and orchestral tightrope walk. It features:
-
Driving, rock-star rhythms that push the strings to their absolute limits.
-
Intricate, overlapping choral lines that demand Olympic-level breath control and agility.
-
Pure, unadulterated operatic drama hidden inside a sacred text.
When you hear it live, you can feel the raw energy of a young genius flexing his musical muscles, trying to prove he was the best in the world.
🕵️ The Secret Weapon: Steffani’s Qui Diligit Marium
To complement Handel’s fiery masterpiece, we are pairing it with a rare, exquisite gem by Agostino Steffani: Qui Diligit Marium.
If you aren’t deeply familiar with Steffani yet, his life story reads like a Hollywood thriller. He wasn’t just a brilliant composer who heavily influenced Handel’s own style; he was also a Catholic bishop, a high-stakes diplomat, and a literal secret agent/spy traveling between the royal courts of Europe.
Where Handel brings the thunder, Steffani brings unparalleled, intoxicating grace. Qui Diligit Marium showcases his legendary mastery of vocal duets and rich, expressive textures. It is elegant, deeply moving, and structurally flawless—the perfect showcase for our stellar soloists and ensemble balance.
🎟️ Why You Cannot Miss This Concert
Hearing either of these pieces live is a treat, but hearing them together is a rare event. It’s a sonic journey through the absolute peak of the Baroque era—moving from Steffani’s sophisticated, glowing architecture straight into the thrilling, fiery passion of Handel’s youth.
Our singers and orchestra are already diving into these intricate scores, and the energy in rehearsals is electric.
