Nutcracker, December 1O, 2016. 7:30 pm
Tickets are available at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre
If there’s any live performance that truly embodies the holiday spirit, it may just be Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet. The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance are collaborating on Saturday, Dec. 10th at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre for an exciting presentation of the Nutcracker to be performed during the first half of the annual CSO&C Christmas concert. Historically, the Nutcracker Suite has for many years, been an enchanting seasonal favourite for the entire family, young and old. “We love having the opportunity to present our traditional take on the Nutcracker, and trying to exceed expectations in any way we can. We’d recommend getting tickets early, the show is sure to sell out,” says CSO&C music director Paula DeWit. “Well known for their elegant costumes, incredibly talented dancers, and beautiful choreography, the dance academy makes a great fit for our Nutcracker performance as an ideal holiday tradition,” adds DeWit.
The second half of the evening’s planned entertainment will include an eclectic offering of choirs, harps, and more dancers. In fact, for this portion of the concert, local performers range in age from childhood all the way to retirees, and they have all been ardently rehearsing over the past several months.
There is nothing quite like the gorgeous sound of a choir and harp together, most especially in the Christmas season. Some might even say it’s heavenly. Miya Otake will be performing on her full sized concert harp. Her harp is as dramatic and beautiful looking as it sounds. Miya will also be joining her Chilliwack student, Mayu Okazaki in a duet of Silent Night, with all its beautiful tranquility, and specially arranged for two harps. She will also join the Chilliwack Children’s Choir in a lovely Dona Nobis Pacem. Just recently, the Chilliwack Children’s Choir was selected to sing with well-known artist, Chris Tomlin, at his upcoming December 14th performance at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. They are all very honoured and excited! Speaking of children, a handful of youngsters from the Chilliwack Dance School will together with the Chilliwack Symphony Chorus present a special tribute to Charlie Brown. Additionally, the Symphony Chorus will sing several classical and contemporary Yuletide selections with the orchestra.
To further enhance the festive atmosphere of the evening, Chilliwack Ever After Party Event princesses will be in attendance in the lobby to distribute Christmas treats to younger members of the audience.
The Nutcracker, and so very much more, will all be performed at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on December 1O, 2016 at 7:30pm. Featuring stars of the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance, the Chilliwack Children’s Chorus, the Chilliwack Symphony Chorus, the Chilliwack Dance School, and the musicians of the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra with a seasonal Christmas focus on their harp, it is quite simply, a perfect winter outing for the whole family. Adult ticket prices range from $25-$35. Family and student rates are available.
