CSO Baroque players

Caroline Olsen is a versatile string performer in the first year of doctoral studies in viola performance with Prof. Marina Thibeault at the University of British Columbia. Caroline first became interested in period performance through early music ensemble singing and Gregorian Chant. She took up the Baroque viola during her Master’s at UBC in the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program and continues to study with Chloe Meyers as part of the UBC early music ensemble. She has pursued additional training through the Victoria Baroque Instrumental Academy and Canadian Renaissance Music Summer School. After graduating summa cum laude from McMaster University with Honours Bachelors of both Science and Music, Caroline launched a freelance career as a violist, violinist, vocalist, and educator. She has appeared in the viola sections of the Vancouver Island Symphony, Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Symphony 21, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, and National Academy Orchestra of Canada, as well as explored diverse genres with other ensembles. Caroline has instructed private music students of all ages for over a decade and maintains a private studio.
